From unskilled laborer to senior executive vice president, such was the unexpected career arc of F. Bill Damron ’58.
While at SHS Bill won varsity letters in baseball, basketball, football and track. After graduating he entered the unskilled labor force. A few years later he was encouraged to apply for a trainee position at a local finance company. Bill did and he bloomed. Soon he was earning promotions that took him to several other Ohio cities. Along the way he was earning banking certificates from several universities – Ohio, Oklahoma and Miami of Ohio. Eventually he rose to senior executive vice president at Wayne County National Bank of Wooster. During the last two years of his banking career, Bill served on the Board of Directors of Chippewa Valley Bank. He also made time to be actively involved in community organizations.
“Bill is a classic example,” observes a fellow alum, “of someone who bloomed late and kept on blooming brightly for many years.”
