David S. Yohn ’47

While at SHS, David Yohn ’47, blended a variety of academic and extracurricular pursuits. He was in the Spanish and Speech Clubs, played basketball and golf for one season each and football for two seasons, and was a member of the Whippet band for all four years. He was a top student at SHS, in college and graduate school, his grade point average ranging from 3.9 to 4.0 on the way to earning a Ph.D. at Ohio State in 1957.

Building his career at Ohio State, he progressed through research positions in microbiology and virology to become director of the Ohio State Comprehensive Cancer Center from 1973 to 1988, deputy director from 1988 to 1994 and director emeritus in 1994. Observes a fellow alum, “He has made a significant contribution to the world of medicine and scientific research.” David achieved many honors in cancer research, including serving as President of the Ohio Cancer Research Association and President and Chairman of the Board of Certoma. David lives in Columbus.
